Halloween’s Dark Arrival
Every year, when Halloween draws near, we know many of you feel that familiar thrill, a mix of anticipation and dark delight. For most of you, it’s the perfect time to dive into chilling adventures or stage epic battles that summon hordes of undead, thirsting for souls and fresh blood.
Over the past few years, we’ve brought you some particularly striking vampire-themed releases for Halloween. But this time, we wanted to go beyond that, to offer you greater variety for your undead armies and provide new ways to bring cursed creatures of all kinds into your stories and battlefields.
And so was born the idea of Sepulcria, the Graveyard Necropolis.
Far beyond the edge of the known world lies a city hidden from mortal eyes, sealed away behind a colossal magical barrier. This is a vast necropolis, a place of exile for all manner of undead beings, cast out, forgotten… but never at rest. These creatures, consumed by vengeance, are forever seeking a way to break the spell that holds them captive and unleash their fury upon the living.
And so we ask you… what do you think might happen this Halloween?
Enjoy the video and come back to find out who’s who and what’s what!
The Characters of Sepulcria
This release is teeming with vivid, unforgettable characters. But there’s little doubt about who will steal the spotlight: Nyssara Blade of the Veil, the weeping widow.
She drifts through graveyards beneath the shadow of her parasol, shunning even the touch of moonlight, while astride Whry, her dreadful undead Pegasus. With blade in hand, she is ready to strike down any who have betrayed their lovers.
Then comes Veynar, the Petrified Saint, one of our Sisters of the Orphanage, and yet cursed by a terrible affliction for reasons unknown. Will you be the one to free her? Or will she ensnare you with the very same fate when you cross her path?
Ossarion, He Who Weighs Mortal Souls, is far from the impartial judge you might expect of one who weighs souls. With his double scythe balanced on a single finger, he tests the purity of your heart. But beware: his wicked Raven is always ready to perch upon the blade, tipping the balance toward your damnation.
And then there is Archduke Noctyrian, perhaps the most colossal and terrifying Vampire we have ever created. He makes for a truly nightmarish final boss in any adventure, or a titanic adversary on the battlefield.
But what of the hooded figure at his side? No one truly knows who, or what, it is…
Haunting Figures and their Curses
Lady Corbeline is a strange, a very strange being. Is she truly undead, or rather a spirit embodying the curse itself?
She manifests in a storm of crows, coalescing into the shape of a woman with birdlike talons. Ever half-intangible, no mortal weapon can touch her.
Her arrival heralds a rain of misfortune and hexes. But what could possibly break the doom she carries with her?
More Heroes + the Legions of Sepulcria
But the Heroes are far from the only threat to emerge from Sepulcria. Endless hordes of soulless Troops surge forth to lay siege to the world of the living.
At their head marches Osarion, flanked by Legions of the Scythes of the Mist, spectral reapers who drift soundlessly across the battlefield.
Beside him, Krayl the Grave Digger commands his grim Grave Digger Guardians, advancing with heavy, relentless steps, burying in an instant all who fall beneath their blows.
In stark contrast, Morvain the Doom Scarecrow brings forth horror of another kind. Wherever he treads, the ground splits open, and from the soil rise The Unearthed, scarecrow-like zombies crowned with pumpkins, hurling themselves into the fray with feral fury.
Ysandra, the Soul Whisperer, walks with the Wisps of the Last Breath. These will-o’-wisps flicker above graves before taking shape as true specters, armed with halberds, hurling themselves at any living creature that crosses their path to harvest their souls.
Those souls are then carefully kept by Lady Veyra, the Soul Archivist, who hoards them to feed the legions of Sepulcria. She herself is surrounded by a truly breathtaking swarm of stone gargoyles, the Belfry Howlers.
And here I must pause the tale to speak as both a player and a collector: these Gargoyles to me are, without question, the finest I have ever seen in the entire history of miniatures. I believe our concept artist and our sculptor achieved something absolutely outstanding here. They captured an elegance, a presence, and a style that embody everything I have ever longed to see in such creatures.
And also...
Of course, no release would be complete without Monsters and Scenery, twisted, macabre terrain that will let you build the most evocative settings for your games.
We truly hope this release inspires you as much as it inspired us. Creating these characters has been a real joy for us, and we believe each one carries a unique personality, opening the door to countless stories and adventures.
And naturally, if you’re a Sovereign Tier member, you can look forward to some especially exciting reinforcements to swell the ranks of your undead hosts later this month, along with new characters and dioramas that will take your adventures with the Hordes of Sepulcria even further.
From all of us here: we wish you a very Happy Halloween. As always, we can’t wait to read from you: hear which miniatures are your favorites from this release and discover how you plan to bring them to life in your games.
Happy Halloween, enjoy your battles, and see you very soon!
