“Once again you blew my mind. Mortenburg is a very cool faction by itselft, and the oriental influence suits them quit well. Dame Selina and Sir Alaric are great. For D&D I'll probably use them as Forgotten Realms Bedine rather than reviving the Thieves' World setting, but I guess the vibe is quite similar. And as always they get some of the best opposing factions: that surrealistic elephant is gorgeous, wizard chickens on flying mantarays are always great and Ishmara, Dancer of the Chaos Winds could easily convert me to worshipping the lord of change if I didn't already have those 3 sets of inquisitors keeping me on the one and only path to salvation. I can't wait to see the reinforcements and I hope one day the other halves of the older Mortenburg releases will get reinforcements, too. Also, the Dark Lords of the Ever Shifting Sands and the Wa'Kura would make a nice pairing for a future release. I bet they've got some (less than) friendly neighborhood disputes to settle. Anyway, you guys are just awesome!""

“This release has me SOOOOOOOO excited! Tzeentch references, middle eastern and Egyptian themes! What’s not to love! I cannot wait to see what the sovereign tier reinforcements are as wel! So glad I upgraded, I love all of the Mortenburg Chronicles releases, and now you’ve given me even more incentive to go back and purchase the original Plagued City release!"

- Warhammer Steve

"Hell yeah...this month is fire!!!"

- Noel

"I knew I'd seen Maktur before. Temptation of St. Anthony. Bravo and well done. I don't reckon I'd ever print that beast, but the troops, daemons and mutants are amazing. I might actually go for the higher tier in this one; the troops look amazing!"
- Christopher Kuok

"Love the release! Can't wait to see the Sovereign Tier! The Sunfire Myrmidons are my favorite!"

Chaos Blood and Steel Part 2 width=

Greetings to you, dear Heroes Infinite Member!

This month’s release is a bit special for me, because it takes us back on an adventure with the characters from Mortenburg and some personal cherished memories.

A Return to a Beloved World

I know the Heroes Infinite audience is made of both Wargamers and Roleplayers, and it’s always an interesting challenge to design releases that can speak to all of you, depending on your tastes and favorite games.

And this month, I think this release is doing that in a very cool manner.

For this release, I wanted to treat myself and revisit a role-playing game universe that has deeply inspired me and in which I’ve run many sessions, memories I still treasure today

Some of you might know the setting, it was called ThievesWorld.

Welcome to the Edge of the Desert

It described a port city located in a region that felt like the Mediterranean or North Africa, on the edge of a desert.

A city where countless caravans full of greedy merchants passed through. A city full of ambitious crooks, sinister cults, and obscenely wealthy nobles. In short, a place packed with opportunities to throw players into adventures straight out of an grown-up version of Aladdin.

I absolutely loved crafting stories in this world.

And as I was thinking about which theme to explore for April’s release, it just made sense that, on their way back from exploring among the Wa’kuras, the people of Mortenburg would stop at an outpost city. One that they would use as a foothold, located in a setting reminiscent of the Mediterranean shores and bordering a land of legends filled with the cursed tombs of semi-divine creatures from other dimensions.

I hope to develop this setting further in the future—a place on the edge of Western and Eastern worlds—so I can eventually share with you some of the adventures I ran for my players nearly 30 years ago. I recently came across the notes from those sessions and realized there were still way too many unused ideas not to share them.

A Twist of Chaos and Egyptian Echoes

So yes, this release is particularly meaningful. As you’ll see, the people of Mortenburg have changed a bit in appearance. They’ve adapted to the climate of their new region. You’ll notice some Middle Eastern and Oriental influences.

In today’s release, it seems they’ve poked around in a place they really should’ve left alone. A place best left unexplored. And once again, dark gods with chaotic, destructive plans are unleashing their fury upon them.

Since you’ve often asked us for extensions to our previous Egyptian gods-themed release, I thought this would be the perfect time to weave some Egyptian references into this hellish, flamboyant faction.

I also gave myself the pleasure of bringing to life a long-time personal fantasy—one that dates back over thirty years—of transforming a creature from a Salvador Dalí painting into a fantasy version fit for a miniature game.

I’m talking, of course, about Maktur, that mutant elephant with outrageously long legs.

Now, I couldn’t go as slender and tall as Dalí’s original, but I hope its weirdness will win you over and that it’ll make a formidable opponent on your game table.

More Minis, More Mayhem with Sovereign

Finally, know that this release is the second to benefit from our new Sovereign program. This means you can access reinforcements that will work not only for the troops in this release, but also for units from our previous Mortenburg collections. Reinforcements for the April Sovereign tier will be released in mid-April.

Namely, we are expanding Mortenburg units from:

This will allow you to bring an even more epic scale to your campaigns—and give your adventurers or enemies an even tougher challenge. Please note that in April, Sovereign members will get a dedicated special discount for those 3 past collections. That’s an added benefit that we provide to our Sovereign members!

If you haven’t done so yet, you can upgrade to Sovereign for only $8 and approximately double the number of minis you get with your Overlord tier. To be clear,

  • New members join Sovereign for $24 (includes all Leader and Overlord models).

So, if you enjoy exotic settings, the magic of movies like The Mummy, or the atmosphere of games like the early Assassin’s Creed, this release invites you to bask under a blazing sun, face off against abominations from forgotten pyramids and enchanted deserts, and seek ever-greater treasures and adventures…

Let the game begin…

As always, we hope you’ll have a blast printing, painting, and playing with these minis—and we can’t wait to hear which ones are your favorites and how you plan to use them.
